Event Description

On March 31, 1965, I almost died. Every day since then has been a day I didn't deserve. It's been a gift, and I've had almost fifty years of them. I'd like to celebrate these gifts with some other gifts I've been given over the years ... the friendships I've collected from some of the most wonderful people I've had the pleasure to know.

I'll bring the Tent of Doom and wine. You bring wine, wood, and you sweet selves.

You can reserve campsites through http://www.reserveamerica.com/

Napa?

Probably not Napa, since Sugarloaf Ridge and Bothe-Napa are both state parks with steep fees. But if there's another possibility in that area, I'll look into it.

Live Oak was fun.

I think it's only $10 per vehicle.

Napa does have a group site, not sure how much it goes for though.

Most group sites I am aware of are geared toward tent campers.  You park in the adjacent lot.

I agree. I've been searching for campsites that we can use for the VWCF for a while now. Still looking. The sites we use are great, but I was looking for some variety. They have to:

  1. Be somewhat near us
  2. Be affordable (Most state parks are pricey now - although most of us double up).
  3. Be able to handle a large group
  4. Be aesthetically pleasing (like you said, most group sites are basically parking lots in the woods).

I'm still searching!

I don't know about a campground there. There is Natomas Oaks Park, but it's a hiking/day use area without camping (or even toilets0.

Another thing: Regis has pointed out that that weekend is Easter, and that some people may have family or other conflicts. However, we could move the event over to the previous weekend (March 27-29) if people want it. Please let me know what weekend works best for you, folks.

Mike F thought Westgate Landing in Lodi was nice. 14 campsites.

I have been to Westgate.  It is  nice park for what it is.  Bring a bike and/or kayak.

Could be doable for a Spring outing.

The  sites have a wooden shelter of sorts.  The fire pit is real close to them.  Any tarp or tent to provide additional weather coverage would most likely have to be put over the entire structure.  I have pic's on the other 'pooter.
