Hi, I'm Pamela from England.

I had a 1972 VW for several years in the 1990's and had many great trips in the Uk & Europe with my two young sons.

My old van (Phyllis) was sadly sold, but i now have a Vw Trophy (1995) with a few more mod cons!

I now confine myself to the UK and especially love the Yorkshire & Derbyshire Dales where i travel with my dog Pippa and plenty of Vino! Would love to hear from like-minded ladies in a similar situation with your own experiences.

Hi Ladies!
I just found this site & I can't tell you how exciting it is to me.
I have an '86 Westy (okay, technically my boyfriend & I have it together, as it was an anniversary gift to each other - what an awesome gift, right!)
We got it in May and so far have unfortunately lacked the funds to really tear into it, but I absolutely cannot wait. I have little to no knowledge or experience with automobiles, as far as mechanics go, but thankfully he does. And his father does restoration as a hobby, so that helps also. In fact, he is currently restoring his own camper (not a VW) so it has been good to observe his work on that before I jump blindly into anything too overwhelming. This is going to be an exciting learning experience and what I consider an ongoing adventure. She's already my baby! :)

Hi gals, I forgot to check back! Well I did drive from Bakersfield, CA to Millbury, MA in about 16 days including rest days at the end of June into July. My lovely 1971 Westy did me proud, not one problem. From the time I collected the van in Oregon on 14 Dec 2009 (I'm British), I completed almost 10,000 miles before getting home.
So can I please be excused from checking in on here? I now see we have 28 replies here so without counting carefully, which I'll do later, that must make about 25 of us.

I did not see another thread on this --- no, I'm not a woman, but I have useful advice - re: DMV registration

If you haven't done so already, create a family trust (you don't have to be married to have a trust). Put all of your vehicles (and other valuable assets, e.g., your house, 401K, etc., in the name of your family trust. Please see a lawyer to set up a trust that works for you (and your family) - this is one legal fee that is worth paying.

This will alleviate any transfer issues and keep the IRS out of your business.

Thanks Craig, but I did not start this discussion on ownership, titles and tax. My purpose was simple: to find out how many women owners/drivers there are in this VW camper family and where we are located.

I asked those that started the title and tax discussion to move it to a topic heading that was more relevant, in order that people who are interested in this area could read the comments and advice. Also that way, it's easily found under 'search'.

Personally I see nothing wrong with paying taxes if they are used to support the kind of nationwide services that any civilized and wealthy country should provide for its citizens. like free health care. In my opinion, wealth is for sharing. The more you have, the more you can afford to pay. Think we'd better have this debate elsewhere; perhaps over a beer at a campout?

I have co-owned a '73 Thing and a '78 Transporter (both long gone). I currently solely-own a '70 Westy and a '78 Westy. The '70 needs one of those pesky engine things, but the '78 is my daily driver. :)

How lucky you are. Now that I have my first and have met many others owners, I realize it's easy to start buyinh others. It's a good thing I don't have the money right now.

I am sorry to hear that your epilepsy affects your possibility of being able to get a licence to drive. I do understand. Please keep dreaming and hopefully one day you'll be seizure free and be able to have your very own VW.
