Wanted: Discontinued Check Valve (023131351) for Eurovan 1995/96

Gosh, I just got this lovely van. Now, I need an emissions part that has been discontinued. The part doesn't hold vacuum anymore. It needs a new diaphragm.

  • Any 95/96 Eurovan owners out there "parting-out" a dead campervan/passenger/weekender?
  • Alternatively, know any rebuilders that fix/rebuild such parts?

I've sent a letter to the part manufacturer, and I've been sending emails to out of state rebuilders. No response yet.

I have a wonderful VW mechanic in Mountain View, CA. He's also owns a Eurovan. He's exhausted his search too.

Can you get a picture of it.  I found this link but not sure if it's what you need.

Hi! Nice to hear from you again. I attached a picture in the original post. The europart part you link to has the incorrect picture. eroparts has a few part numbers incorrect too. ecstuning's listing is vauge, but it's worth a shot - so I initiated the purchase. When I try to buy this part from online dealers that advertise that they have it, they either call back saying that the part has been discontinued. I'll keep ya posted. Nice to hear from you! :) Oh, and THANK YOU!

Then there is always the used item.  Big gamble.  Craigslist auto parts has Eurovans being parted out.

Looks like Part #5 in the picture?  have to click on it to enlarge

I sent out some emails to parts houses.  Somebody has to have at least one of these on the shelf.

This site claims to have it, also--I have utilized used emissions parts for many years in all types of vehicles with your parts availability issues so don't rule that out if new one is truly NLA or too spendy. I believe that Samba has a VW salvage yard listing on their site--any salvage guy will send you as many as you want until you get a good one if that becomes a problem, most will test it for you beforehand, and these valves are easy to check before installation. This is part of the fun, don't you think?

Fun - nope! Not for me. I'd rather spend the time planning a camping trip. ;) I'm all for used parts! My husband ordered a part for a different vehicle, then modified it. Vacuum tests show good results. We're hoping the check engine light doesn't come on again. We'll see. In the meantime, I'm going to check out the salvage/Samba. Thank you for your response.

Okay. So, I got a call back. Nope - they don't have the part, despite advertising it on their site. It's been common response so far. Thought you'd like to know.

Thanks for the get-back and by all means stick Samba in your bookmarks. Congrats on figuring out a can-use part--if it works please share the PN# and the mod with us.

So what was/is the outcome of this?  The modified part worked enough to past the smog peeps?

What part number or vehicle application was it?

Thanks,

Yikes, looks like I missed Turnawheel's post way back in 2013. Thank you for following up! Turns out we needed 3 parts. The last remaining part is suited, but my husband hasn't gotten around to installing it because it just doesn't make his priority list, and so the check engine light still comes on. I passed smog recently by simply running the engine for a bit so that the light isn't on when I get smog-tested. The light comes on when the car has been idle and appears on power on. I'll get back to you on the part number for the modified part, which is for a Saab.
