This is #13! It's time to be back together again to consume food and make merry!
We are going back to Sandy Beach in Rio Vista, CA. This is our annual practice run and food fest before Thanksgiving. Reserve sites soon as they may go fast if the sport fishermen/women come back this year.
It's a pot-luck, and I'll be roasting a turkey on-site. Electrical outlets will be available for people with hot pots and such,
Party Central will be at site #4. Bring food, wine, and wood (although wood may also be available on-site).
Musical instruments are always welcome, particularly if accompanied by musicians.
As usual, I'll share my spot with another camper, and encourage you to to the same.
A few more things: the reservation section of the park's web site is a bit dodgy right now, and senior discounts aren't on the menu there. If you qualify, go ahead and reserve your spot at the going rate, and make contact with the park by phone to arrange a refund of part of the fee. The point is to grab your spot first, and settle the bill later.
The second thing: Note that all reservations must be made at least two weeks in advance of the date, and no "first-come-first-served" sites are provided anymore. But if you're late, look for the people willing to share a spot and hitch up with them.
Third, all sites have electricity FOR FREE. Bring your electric heaters if you think you need them. (If you don't have one and need one, let me know and I'll bring one for you.)
Brett made a little video about what kind of adapter you need if you want to use the AC outlets that are at every site (FOR FREE!). Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOF7aCUfwZ0
Lastly, be aware that there are wild critters (raccoons, feral cats, etc.) that will go into any open camper that you're not around. So be sure to keep your doors closed.
Oh you just shush there one time there Sis. Once. One time. I was excited. I forgot.
Nobody was buying the, yeah but its extra flavor, thing me says.
Outa the paper bag woulda been nice, huh?, was the reply.
sigh.
I promise this year (should) be ok.
I was referring to myself prepping the turkey back when we used to go to Napa Bothe State Park and forgetting to remove the bag (still mostly frozen). If it happened to you, too, then it must be a bonafide rite of passage! LOL!
Ah, I remember the rain forest campouts there!
I remember attempting to check the cavity after the initial thaw. After the Bird was cooked, the head carver pulled out the bag of giblets as if it was some sort of bonus prize or something. Waving it triumphantly in the air, he scans to crowd and fixates a stare upon my eyes. I buckled like a belt. The Bird was delicious though. And the band played on...
I think that might have been the turkey that Joel deep-fried. I didn't start bringing the Weber until the event moved to Del Valle. And it's been a fixture of every one we've had at Sandy Beach.
My blunder was at Sandy Beach. But no big. It shan't happen, prolly, most likely, I think, again? I'll go hunting tomorrow or monday for the celebratory bird. Wish me luck.
We are not going to be able to make it this weekend. I have to make up some work after being sick last week. Hope you all have a great time!
Any suggestions or requests for what we should bring? We could do a green salad and cornbread like last year, or something new -
The Bird has been secured. All 12.79 frozen lbs of it. It tried to hide amongst the other twenty or so fatties but I kept digging. It's the runt of the bunch. Should be a perfect fit to the Weber.
In other news, it appears that half of site 5 has become available. Me thinks its only fair to offer the spot to the first on a waiting list, if there is such a thing. PM me for details.
Sorry you won't be able to be here this weekend, Laura. I hope you're well again.
Melissa, bring whatever you like that will be convenient for you. But I would recommend that people post what they're bringing so we won't end up with twelve dishes of cornbread. And it would be good to mention any ingredients that people might have problems with.
I myself will be making my usual salt potatoes.
