Event Description

Train Spotting will return in 2013. We will be going back to the Feather River Canyon-Hallsted Campground in the Plumas National Forest.  Hallsted has been refurbished and "improved" with new bathrooms with showers (!), a second path to the river, 7 sites now have electric hookups, sites are shifted around, there are new site furnishings, etc. There is also one pull-through site for a large RV. It sounds really nice but will be different from the forgotten little campground we are used to. Reservations now available at:

http://www.recreation.gov/welcome.do

The Historic Feather River railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a natural and cultural resource treat!

I looked briefly on the linked web site.  I'm hoping that since they now have sites with electric, generators are prohibited.

Case in point is Lake Del Valle.  I recently booked the first weekend in May for a fam outing in spot 78. But any of yinz are welcome, as always.

The fine print stated that generators are not allowed.  Don't ever remember seeing or reading that.  I fired off an email to the Easy Bay Park and Rec Dept for the skinny.  Answer was that no generators allowed even if the motorhome or TT has one as standard equipment because they offer site with utilities.  Yea.  One for the little guy.  Finally.

Sorry to drift off topic.  Just sayin'

Awesome, Werner!  We will command this campground! I'll post a revised camp site list soon, so if anyone wants to take advantage of Werner's offer, speak up soon! You guys with the Golden Age passports ROCK!

I did a recon last week as I was passing through...

Looks like most construction is finished...  The place doesn't look too much different.  New restroom building and all new tables, fire rings, food lockers, water system, etc....   They cleared allot of undergrowth, but didn't cut all the big trees or anything. It's still a nice campground....

Hey, thanks for the recon! Good news all the way around. Only 3 sites left, volks.

I'm still willing to share my spot (and I got the geriatric rate, too).
