VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

Hi all,

I have noticed there is a lot of good pix floating around and wondered what everyone uses to take these pictures. Big Blues driver has some great pix with really shallow depth of field and also some playing around with a Holga.

I myself have a Nikon D300 with a small selection of lens'. My favorite by far is the 50mm f1.8 but I also have a trusty 18 to 135 that came with the D300, a 105mm for macro stuff and a 28mm f2.8 that comes in handy for indoor shots.

I carry a Panasonic TS1 I bought for my honey moon trip to Maui so I could use it underwater as well as small enough to daily carry and get good pix from it.

So what do you use?

A Great question. I love my Pentax Optio MX. Takes great photos and video. If you'd like to see photos of our current road trip across the USA in a 1971 VW Westfalia, we'd love you to join us on Facebook at http://bit.ly/cvh1cX and also subscribe to our blog at http://yeswecanjourney.wordpress.com
Cheers, Carole and the YesWeCan CamperVan.
I want to do a trip in my '71 Westy someday...

Good news on the camera front for me, I finally got my old house rented out and getting back on my feet $$$ wise. So I started looking around for a new DSLR system. I found the Olympus E-520 kit with 2 lens' on sale at Sams Club for $300!!! Now it's 1.5 year old tech but dang worth it...
i have a few Canon Hv-30 & Sony, FX7 for video, a Nikon D3000 for photos.... my most popular though,
is my Iphone 4. Great lens and video quality for a phone, plus i carry it with me everywhere so i'm always ready for videos and photos.

video below was shot mostly with the phone.

Being that I'm very hard on cameras, I use very cheap units that can be easily replaced.
I have a Kodak Easy Share C913 that takes stills and video. This poor camera has been beat, used, and abused. I actually lost it on last years Shasta Snow Trip. It sat in the middle of an unimproved road in the rain for over a week. Amazingly it was found by Good Samaritans on their way out of the same area. How they didn't run it over on the trip in boggles the mind. They scrolled through the pictures and found a picture of a vehicle with a web address. They went to the sight and post a note on the forum and word went through the grapevine and I connected with the party. Long story short.....they sent me the camera which I still use today.

My other "throw away camera" is my Flip High Definition Video Cam. This is another camera that has led less than a charmed life. I've had it mounted on 180 mph racecars, had it hanging off the side of my bus, dropped it numerous times, and it still takes good video.

Here is my latest video put together with pics and vids from both of my beat cameras:

Dang I really dig cameras...! and reading about those all of you use! THANKS!

I tried to like the Olympus I bough a few months ago but just could not... I sold it to fund another Nikon. I found a barely used D40 with kit lens out in southern California on craigs for a crazy deal so I employed my dad to help me get back into the Nikon game...not the DLSR I want in the end but I'm back to Nikon and don't want to leave!

My wife bought me one of the new Nikon 35mm f1.8's to play with and man is it nice!

Here's a couple of star shots I took the other night. Took eight 30 second shots and put them together in PS -

Since you're so hard on your camera you should look at picking up a GoPro, they're made for extreme sports.
