Event Description

There continues to be highway construction and related delays in the Feather River Canyon/Highway 70. Check 511.org before you travel.

The Historic Feather River Railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a real treat! The weather can be variable in June.

Those looking for hot springs can find them a couple miles up the road. Formerly known as "Woody's", the Feather River Hot Springs are now associated with an RV park and cabins. I think you need to call to make a reservation.

The Twain Store is walking distance from the campground and has ice, ice cream, deli items, breakfast and lunch, beer and much more.

Comment by westywoman (Melissa) on April 24, 2024 at 3:48pm: Those who are considering approaching from the east by way of Truckee/89 should consider that it is 86 miles from Truckee to Twain, estimated at 1 hour, 45 minutes. The trip from Sacramento to Twain by way of Truckee is 287 miles, over 5 hours of travel time. Alternatively, you could travel north to Lake Almanor and head south on 89 through Greenville, which is still pretty significant travel time. This road closure is causing me to reconsider my attendance.

Comment by Scott & Karla on April 25, 2024 at 7:46am: Karla and I discussed. We're still going. Taking the Chico alternate route adds about an hour on to our drive - and that's acceptable to us.

Comment by regis101 on April 25, 2024 at 8:18am: Many many moons ago with the Bay Westy, I drove the Quincy-La Porte road. It breezes by Little Grass Valley Res and ends up in east Oroville somewhere, if memory serves. I'm sure it would be a slow going alternative for those adventurous drivers.

Comment by regis101 on April 27, 2024 at 2:05pm: Browsed around on Maps. I notice a road from Marysville that goes near Collins lake then runs into the road that heads to La Porte. Might be an interesting drive.

Comment by westywoman (Melissa) on April 27, 2024 at 4:16pm: There's also the Oroville-Quincy highway that goes up past Buck's Lake. I did that once when there was still some snow on the ground. I don't recall if it is gnarly or not.
