VW Camper Family

A camping forum for VW bus and camper owners.

My 64 beetle was insured by Hagerty Insurance for an agreed value of $10K.  When I was going to renew my policy, I decided to check with Geico.  Geico had a collectors car policy with the same coverage/milage limitation as Hagerty for 1/2 the price.  Any of you bus people insure an older beetle or bus under  collectors policy?  What insurance company do you use for your volkswagen?  Do they insure for an agreed value or blue book?

I have had Geico on all my vehicles for many years... They recently asked me to prove my mileages, and when I couldn't satisfy their demands on the bus, they raised me to 12k per year. (From 3k) I have 3 cars, and 2 motorcycles, and am only one guy. I don't drive 45k + per year, and ain't paying for it. I don't have recent mileage records for the bus, because I do all my own work. It has had the same tires on it for 5 years plus. I only drove it 2200 miles last year, but can't prove it enough to satisfy them. I have never had an insurance claim in my whole life, and have a class A CDL with no tickets. I guess they don't know a good thing when they see it. They have basically called me a liar, and I am currently shopping around. I suppose there really aren't any "good" insurance company's. They all just want your money.
I've got Geico too - But when I got the Bus, I told them that the mileage I drive is really really low - like less than 2500 per year. That, plus my Very Fine Automobile ('94 Sable Stationwagon) I've claimed low yearly mileage on it too - so they haven't raised the rates for me - tell them you drive very few miles, an' it may work for you.

Liberty Mutual. They agreed to a "stated value" on my '84 Westy and it raised my rate just a bit. I'm not sure a "stated value" is such a good deal...better to do the arguing after the accident I am told. But I felt comfortable with getting it on the record and backing it up with photos and documentation. I have homeowner's and auto with LM and there's a discount for that, plus the second vehicle is discounted 25% plus I have a "professional" association discount of another 10%. It works for me and their customer service is excellent.
