Join us for our usual commotion at Sandy Beach Park in Rio Vista, California. The Tent of Doom will be there, so we'll have fun rain or shine.
The park has electrical hookups at every site, so bring your electric heaters if you want to. You may need a 110 v. adapter to use their hookup.
As usual, bring wood, bring wine, bring munchies. If there's demand for a potluck, bring something for that, too.
Should we start making reservations for this?
I guess it wouldn't hurt, although I don't remember space being a problem in the past. We pretty much had our section of the campground to ourselves. I would recommend that re reserve no more than half the number of spaces as people we're expecting, so that we don't end up paying for more space than we need.
As usual, I'll bring the tent of doom and (upon request) a couple of small space heaters.
Comment by Cat Randall on November 13, 2012 at 10:34am I've never been to one of these outings yet and am still getting acquainted with my camper. I have no idea what a 110 v adapter is or why it is used. Help! :) Any tips for a newbie? I'm a life long tent camper, but just moved up to a Westy and am still learning her ropes. Thank you in advance :)
The 110 v adapter is something you plug into the end of your ordinary 110 volt extension cord, so that the cord's plug can fit into the service boxes that RV campsites use. For reasons known only to them, they use a different plug configuration than your household outlets do, and you need the adapter so that your extension cord can plug into the box. Your local RV supplier should be able to sell you one for about four or five bucks.
Cat - I'll try to take a picture of the hookup tonight. It's basically a hookup to the power at the campsite if you want to plug your westy into "shore power". You don't have to use it, but it's nice at this campout as it can get cold at night!
Comment by Cat Randall on November 13, 2012 at 12:26pm Thank you gentlemen, John and Big Blue Driver! I surely appreciate the tips and any helps. I bought myself a Little Buddy propane heater, but I can see the advantages of using the electric heater. No one I know has a Westy but me, so I am learning slowly all that there is to know, and the more I learn the more I love my van. Thank you so much!

Comment by Cat Randall on November 14, 2012 at 9:12am Wow you went above and beyond Blue! Thank you! I went online yesterday to search and tons of various adapters were offered and it made it hard to know which one I needed. This erases all doubt! Thank you! :)
Right on. Some campgrounds have 50 amp boxes. In which case you need a 50 to 110 adapter. But Rio Vista is 30. If you go to an RV store, you may want to buy both while you are there as they are pretty cheap and you can just keep them in your bus in case you need them in the future.
I haven't been to a campground yet that had only the 50 amp boxes, but I guess there's a first time for everything.
