Event Description

For information on the Hallsted campground, the recreation.gov link is below:

The Historic Feather River Railroad route runs on the opposite side of the river from the campground. Trains climb and descend the grade at all hours-you will be falling asleep to the rumble of the diesel engines and the squeal of steel wheels on the tracks. If you have never driven through the Feather River Canyon, it is a real treat!

100 FREE things to do in Plumas County:

Those looking for hot springs can find them a couple miles up the road. Formerly known as "Woody's", they are now associated with an RV and cabin establishment. I think you need to call ahead and there is a $5 fee. Details here:

The Twain Store is walking distance from the campground and has ice, ice cream, deli items, beer and more. The camp host will have firewood for sale.

You can tour the Seven Wonders of the Railroad World in Plumas County:

Those of you who are new to this event may want to make yourselves aware of the refueling opportunities. Coming from the west on Highway 70, I highly recommend stopping in Oroville and filling your gas tank. There is a 76 station on Feather River Blvd, right off Highway 70. From here, you have about 70 miles to  the campground. Next gas is in Quincy or Greenville, about 20 miles from the campground in the other direction. Or, if you want to do math, 90 miles from Oroville.

Volks coming from the north or other directions, gas is available in Greenville or Quincy, on Highway 89.

The campground is a bit remote, so please plan ahead and fill up!

Well, looks like the bus doesn't want to go camping :(  Made it to just about the Carquinez bridge and she started bucking and died, poor girl.  Ran the battery out trying to restart, and had to call AAA for a tow home.  If I can get her running, I may try to make it up tomorrow.  Please feel free to use my spot as it's not looking good right now :(  Have fun!!

Sorry we missed you, Kris. There'll be another time.

And thanks, Westywoman, for a great campout. You arranged for perfect weather!

Our camping group got a compliment from the camp host. As he was cleaning up on Sunday, he mentioned how little trash we left behind and how clean our campsites were. Good job everybody, it’s part of rule number one, be nice! Especially to the camp host. Thanks everybody for coming and having such a good time!

It was wonderful to meet you all, a great group a friendly fun folks! Some families, some eccentrics, music  and laughs - a perfect mix for a gathering. And so fun for me to have a tour of your various vans and their improvements. I drove the back road from Twain to Butterfly Valley, then on to Quincy. Road pretty gnarly a couple miles in, steep, single track, muddy with Cliff drop off on one side. Amazing that Blake did that in a single gear bike! Hiked pretty Meadow, wildflowers and pitcher plants. On return, stopped at Twain store and had a delicious tamale smothered in chili sauce, yum... thanks very much to Melissa for putting this event in action!
